David is still not entirely sure what basket to put Clint in, so to speak. He still mainly classifies him as 'Wesley's friend' and he really doesn't know why Clint keeps asking after his wellbeing. He doesn't think they're that close and Clint has no particular reason to like him?? But he keeps doing it, and I don't think David will stop being confused by it any time soon. Their most recent conversation shows that they do get each other on some levels, but on others they are so far apart that when Clint says one thing, David will take it entirely differently. Like the Wesley thing. David sees absolutely no point in sending a message to someone he will never see again and also doesn't see why Wesley would send HIM anything. Which is now backfiring because Wesley did send something. But honestly David just didn't see what point there would be, whereas Clint clearly did, so they were at an understanding impasse there. He doesn't mind Clint though! Just.. doesn't see why Clint keeps engaging with him.

Clint just likes talking to David. He's an interesting conversationalist and clearly withdrawn in some way. Being pretty observant, he picks up stuff but Clint isn't much for pushing people or pointing things out. He keeps his distance at all times, but with David, he enjoys pointing things out and learning more about him, mostly since David himself seems rather enigmatic and definitely not fond of people.

MACHINE IS. actually I would say Machine is the person David is most comfortable with, if only because he feels like he understands Machine and Machine also somewhat understands him. They're both synthetics, so he at least knows that Machine is not going to say some of the terrible stupid things that humans always come out with. There is a certain predictability about him that David appreciates. He doesn't quite classify Machine as a friend because David doesn't do that with anyone and still finds it mystifying that anyone would. But it's getting there, which is a fairly big deal for him. He no longer finds Machine intensely frustrating, only... sometimes frustrating. And not, so far, to the extent that he feels the need to shank him in the feelings. I guess the summary of it is that Machine is the person David is least likely to walk out of a conversation on at this point in time.

THAT'S COOL I AM BUSY LIKE 80% OF THE TIME GOING TO THE HOBBIT A MILLION TIMES.

David doesn't mind Charles! He finds their conversations a bit more interesting than others because Charles clearly tries to navigate around it when David gives particularly obfuscating answers based on the question he's been asked. And David enjoys giving those kinds of answers, but he also enjoys when people try to get around it because honestly not that many people notice what he's doing to start with. Charles also asks about things in a bit more depth than others so he finds that more interesting to deal with as well (Peter does this as well, but Peter also got too personal with it). So David likes talking to Charles at the moment, but it doesn't get much deeper than that. Since Charles lives with Leto and hangs around him a lot, David wouldn't actually go anywhere near him while Leto is around though :x
